In 1996, Welly Yang returned to Broadway as Thuy in Miss Saigon after a year and a half of exploring the world. During that time, he got to fly on a magic carpet while touring East Asia in the title role of Cole Porter's Aladdin. He then went on to receive international acclaim for his portrayal of a civil rights attorney in the world premiere of John Adam's/Peter Sellar's I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky at Lincoln Center and in Europe. The latter role he reprised in both an Elektra/Nonesuch recording as well as in a series of New York Philharmonic concerts. On television, he can be seen occasionally on the PBS series Ghostwriter and in various television and radio commercials. Other stage credits include: The Fantasticks, Some Enchanted Evening, Mame, Utopia Ltd., The New Moon, The Mikado. Television: As the World Turns, National Geographic's Explorer. Welly is Taiwanese-American and also founder/director of a non-profit performing arts company called The Second Generation Productions. In 1998, he created the work Making Tracks. An honors graduate from Columbia University in political science, he hopes to one day step onto that stage as well.
