| Vote for Welly in '00 |

Here's my story of the day. I was asked to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" at this reception honoring Asian-Americans today at ABC. It was jointly sponsored by ABC and Governor Pataki. Anyway, they introduced me, then I got up to sing, waited for the tape to start...waited...waited..heard something faint... finally it came up, but it wasn't the beginning of the song anymore, we were on "What so proudly we hailed..." So I just jumped in as if those were the lyrics to the beginning of the song. You know, as if I was a professional or something. Anyway, the rest of the song went pretty well, and next Governor Pataki spoke: "Blah, Blah, Blah, blah, blah, blah...and Welly, wait, where's Welly? Oh, there... Welly went to Columbia, and I went to Columbia, and Welly studied politics, and I studied politics..." Then, being the wise ass I am, I raised my voice and interjected "and we're both actors..." Half way out of my mouth, I thought "don't say it, it's like saying he's a big fake." Anyway, it was too late, but it got a big laugh from the audience, including the Governor, who seemed to appreciate the levity. "No, not an actor," he responded, "though I was going to say that... if I could sing as well as that, I would have never entered politics, I probably would have continued singing and made more money and have ABC pay me..." He then went on later to say, when he was talking about community or something, "and then one day you can all vote for Welly..." Anyway, just thought I'd write and share my story. Of course, the governor IS being a total loser on this rent control/stabilization thing, but since he mentioned me in his speech a couple of times, I support him in everything he does, even if hethrows poor and elderly people out onto the streets. Well, since I now have an endorsement from the governor to run for office, we'll change all that. |
